Lindsay Morgan Lohan (born July 2, 1986) is an American actress and pop music singer. Lohan was born in New York City and raised in Cold Spring Harbor. By 2004, her primary home was in Beverly Hills.

Lindsay Lohan began her career as a model for the Ford Academy at the age of three and has appeared in more than sixty television commercials. At first, the freckle-faced, auburn-haired Lohan found it difficult to find work as a child model, as the business was dominated by blond-haired, blue-eyed children. Faring better as a child actress, she was a regular on soap operas such as The Guiding Light and As The World Turns, then spent several months as Allison "Alli" Fowler on Another World, only to give up the show for her first motion picture role. Lohan also appeared on Healthy Kids, a children's health show, along with Dina Lohan, her mother and business manager.

As a teen, Lohan starred in two Disney Channel original movies, Life-Size and Get a Clue. She also played Bette Midler's daughter in the first episode of the short-lived series Bette before bowing out when the production moved from her native New York to Los Angeles, California.

In 2003, Lohan was Punk'd by Ashton Kutcher. Kutcher played a practical joke on Lohan, making her believe a vehicle had been stolen. (It was later revealed that the frustrated "limousine driver" who "missed" the birth of his child was really an actor.)

On November 8, 2004, Lohan made a much-publicized cameo appearance on That '70s Show in an episode entitled "Mother's Little Helper". Lohan played "Danielle" opposite Kutcher ("Kelso") and then-boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama ("Fez").

Lohan has hosted Saturday Night Live twice.

Lohan's first film role came when Nancy Meyers cast her as estranged twin sisters who meet each other at a summer camp in The Parent Trap (1998), based on a book that had been made into a Hayley Mills film in 1961. Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson co-starred as Lohan's parents in the 1998 film, which introduced the actress to a wider audience. Film critic Barbara Shulgasser called Lohan "a frighteningly poised child who is truly impressive as the long-separated twins", and Janet Maslin of the New York Times said she "plays the dual role with apparent effortlessness and with so much forcefulness that she seems to have been taking 'shy violet' lessons from Sharon Stone."

Her next feature was another family film, Freaky Friday (2003), a comedy for which Lohan received second billing behind Jamie Lee Curtis. Lohan and Curtis received strong reviews for their portrayals of a mother and daughter who each find themselves trapped in the other's body. The New York Post's Lou Lumenick declared the film to be "a surprisingly hilarious comedy with winning performances". Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun Times wrote that Lohan "has that Jodie Foster sort of seriousness and intent focus beneath her teenage persona... they're right for these roles not only because of talent, but also because of their essential natures" [4]. The film was also a huge commercial success.

Lohan was given the lead in two films: Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (Disney's first non-remake involving Lohan) and Paramount's Mean Girls, both of which were released in 2004. Drama Queen, which saw Lohan play an aspiring actress whose dreams of a life of glamour are dashed when her family moves to New Jersey, was only a moderate success at the box office. Reviews were dismal; Michael O'Sullivan said Lohan was "perky" in her role, but described the film as "a crass example of all that is wrong with our consumerist, youth-worshiping culture" [6]. Kimberley Jones wrote, "Lohan is sweet and terribly enthusiastic about the part... I'm mildly curious to see what she can achieve once she’s aged out of the sanitized-for-their-protection teen-movie ghetto." Mean Girls is widely considered Lohan's breakout role. The film was a hit with both critics and audiences, and made Lohan a bankable actress when it grossed over US$86 million domestically on little more than Lohan's name and a script by Tina Fey. Box office analyst Brandon Gray said that the film "[cements] her status as the new teen movie queen". Mean Girls was also Lohan's first film to receive a PG-13 rating, as all of her previous films were G- or PG-rated, family-oriented films.

Lohan's latest (2005) movie is Herbie: Fully Loaded, the fifth film in the long-dormant Herbie series (the last installment was 1980's Herbie Goes Bananas), co-starring Justin Long, Michael Keaton, Matt Dillon and Breckin Meyer. For the Walt Disney film, it was reported that Lohan's breasts had to be "digitally reduced" so that family audiences would not be offended. The film's director, Angela Robinson, and Lohan both strongly denied the rumor.

Lohan's next film, Just My Luck, is set for release in March 2006. In July 2005, she finished work on The Last Broadcast (also due out in 2006), an independent film directed by Robert Altman. Then, she is scheduled to model for Vogue

In addition to her film career, Lohan has also ventured into the world of pop music. In 2002, she signed a five-album production deal with record producer Emilio Estefan. For the 2003 Freaky Friday soundtrack, she performed the theme song "Ultimate" (written by Jeff Coplan and Robert Ellis Orrall). The next year, she followed this up with the recording of four songs for the Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen soundtrack, including the theme to the film, "Drama Queen (That Girl)".

In 2004, Lohan signed a recording contract with Casablanca Records, a label headed by well-known "diva-maker" Tommy Mottola. Her debut album, Speak, was issued on December 7, 2004, and reached #4 on the US Billboard 200, as well as the top ten of the Canadian album chart. By early 2005, it was certified platinum. Despite these successes, the album was a critical failure, with many reviewers dismissing the record as merely a way to cash in on Lohan's popularity among tweens.

The lead single off the album, "Rumors", was a strong digital seller, and eventually earned itself a gold certification. The sexually-suggestive video for the track also was popular and, in addition to making it to #1 on MTV's TRL, was nominated for Best Pop Video at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards. However, the song never really lit up the charts, aside from going top ten in Australia. Follow-up singles "Over" and "First" (the latter of which was featured on the Herbie: Fully Loaded soundtrack) were similar cases in that they also received moderate airplay on TRL, but never really took off on any charts (although both singles made top forty placement in Australia, and "Over" also broke into the UK charts).

By September 2005, Lohan had returned to the studio to work on a new album, A Little More Personal (Raw), due for release in the U.S. on November 22, 2005. Its first single, titled "Confessions of a Broken Heart", premiered on AOL's "First Listen" on September 30, 2005. The single's music video [9] was directed by Lohan, and features her sister Ali as a younger version of herself. The song shows Lohan's rocky relationship with her father, and how she didn't want him to leave.

She is planning to do a song with the singer Alsou.

According to news reports, there is some animosity between Lohan and Hilary Duff, both having previously dated singer Aaron Carter. At the Cheaper by the Dozen movie (in which Duff co-starred) premiere party, Duff and her mother allegedly tried to have Lohan thrown out (to no avail). Duff claimed that Lohan left offensive messages on her answering machine, and Lohan made identical charges about Duff. In August, 2005, Australian magazine reported that Lohan tried to patch things up by calling Duff and asking to "hang out". According to the magazine, Lohan said Duff's "sister hung up the phone on me!" Lohan and Duff are frequently compared, as the course of their respective career tracks has followed a similar pattern.

Lohan, 17, moved in with actor Wilmer Valderrama in Spring 2004, and their breakup the following November made entertainment headlines. The tabloids have linked her to everyone from Bruce Willis to Jake Gyllenhaal and Jerry Yan. The entertainment media also portray her as a "party girl" who spends too much time at clubs with friends Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Nicky Hilton, Kimberly Stewart, Alsou, and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. That image, together with repeated rumors of breast enhancement, brought constant denials from Lohan, who eventually would lampoon the tabloid rumors during her appearances on Saturday Night Live.

Media reports in the Spring and Summer of 2005 focused on Lohan's dramatic weight loss, speculating that an eating disorder or drugs may be involved. She told People Magazine, "I got a trainer ... Just old-school working out." Lohan says there is pressure to stay thin in Hollywood, "(e)specially when you lose a lot of weight and then people are telling you, 'You look great!' You (ask), 'So... did I look fat before?'"

(Later, Lohan seemed to admit that she had lost too much weight. According to FemaleFirst, she said, "I'm working out with a trainer and eating healthily. I want my boobs back." )

In July, 2005, Mattel released a Lindsay Lohan 'My Scene' Doll.

Lohan's family name was originally pronounced LOW-han but, by 2005, the actress and her mother seemed to settle on LOW-en, suggesting a return to its European roots.

Lohan is of Irish and Italian heritage.

She smoked since age 15 and had car accident twice.

Shortly after an apparent digital photograph of her California driver's license was released on the internet (after her card case was misplaced or stolen from a New York City nightclub in 2004), Lohan was asked her middle name by an audience member on the cable television show TEENick. She answered that it was originally (and, apparently, still is legally) Dee, but she later changed it to Morgan.

Lohan is involved in charity projects such as The Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Foundation, Save the Children, The United Cerebral Palsy Association, and her own charity organization, Dream Come True.

Lohan is the eldest child of Michael and Dina (née Sullivan) Lohan. She has three younger siblings, Michael, Aliana ("Ali") and Dakota ("Cody"). Aliana is an aspiring model and actress.

Lohan's father, Michael Lohan, has had multiple problems with the law. In May of 2005, he was ordered to serve 1½ to 4 years in prison after pleading guilty to several charges, including aggravated unlicensed driving and attempted assault. Michael Lohan begged for long-term alcohol rehabilitation, but was denied. He admitted to a drinking problem, saying he was being kept away from his children, but failed to address the reasons for the estrangement. On August 26, 2005, as part of a divorce petition filed by Dina Lohan, a Nassau County judge denied her husband a cut of Lindsay's earnings, saying they do not qualify as a "marital asset" (Michael Lohan argued it was Dina's "pay" as her daughter's manager). Further, New York State Supreme Court Justice Robert A. Ross wrote that Lindsay's career has created a windfall for the Lohan family, "filling the void created by (Michael's) lack of support (in a) resounding answer to the dysfunction that her father has brought to the household." Lohan's management has publicly suggested that she distance herself from her father because of his legal problems; still, on Father's Day, 2005, she told reporters, "I hope he's well. God bless him and I love him." However this is not the case, as she apparently shows in her new music video for Confessions of a Broken Heart (Daughter to Father)scheduled to be premiered on MTV's TRL on October 25, 2005. She expresses her rage and sadness her father caused her as seen crying on the bathroom floor, also Lohan's sister Ali is in the video, also extremely distraught. Lohan expressed hopes that her father would view the video favorably, saying, ""I hope he'll see what I say in the song is, 'I love you,' so many times, that I need him and the crazy things in my life. I hope he sees the positive side of the video rather than the negative. The video is kind of offensive, but it is very raw."

On May 31, 2005, Lohan suffered minor injuries in a car accident involving a paparazzo who was following her for a photograph. Police arrested the man after they determined that he hit her car intentionally; he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Lohan was involved in another accident on October 4, 2005; in this incident, the actress' black Mercedes-Benz convertible collided with a van in West Hollywood. Despite eyewitness claims that the accident was once again caused by the paparazzi, the police later refuted this, saying that the van's driver caused the accident by performing an illegal U-turn
